GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Pieaent—Messrs W. S. Maslin, (chairman), R. Y. Ferguson, R. Taylor, R. Hammond, J. Sutherland and J. Williams.

CORRESPONDENCE,

Correspondence was read and dealt with as under : . From Mr G. F. Clulee, applying for use of the Town Board office, to hold * public meeting re dairying industry.—Resolved— " That Mr Clulee be allowed the use of the office on May 3rd, but it must not be taken as a precedent because there are other halls in town which pay licenses for public meetings." From the Chief Surveyor asking information respecting the locality of road works. —Information to be sent. From Messrs Smithson, Raymond & Smith, enclo-ing transfer of lots 4,5, 0, and 7 from J. Farrell to H. B. Webster, and requesting the board's consent thereto. —Granted. THE TAN SYSTEM. The overseer reported that three persons had iufriuged the law with respect to tie emptying of nightsoil pans. It was resolved —" That the three persons in question be proceeded against under section 300 of the Municipal Corporation Act." It wa& also resolved to hand in the names of those persons having cesspits to the solicitor, and that such persons be procoeded against. A deputation from the Geraldine School Committee waited on the board asking certain concessions regarding the charge of removing the school nightsoil.— Resolved—" That the school committee be charged £2 per annum for the removal of nightsoil." GERALDINE SALE YARDS. Mr H. Morrison waited on the board requesting the removal of the Geraldine ssleyards as he considered that they were a public nuisance. He mentioned that he had five children ill for three weeks and a doctor attending them, and his neighbours' children were also affected in the same way. He put the cause down to the unhealthy state of the sale yards and their being in the town. Resolved —" That the inspector of nuisances be authorised to report on on the state of the yards." REPORTS. The ranger's report on stray cattle was read. The overseer reported that owing to horses trampling down the earth the water races had got obstructed. —Resolved —" That the Work's Committee inspect the race and have any necessary work done." TENDERS. Tenders were received for carting and breaking 200 yards of shingle as follows : Jos. Fiheld, Is 2£d per yard ; T. Sugrue, £9 18s; J. Mulvahill, £9 15s lOd; M. Lawlor, £9 15s ; T. Groundwater, 11 fd ; per yard (accepted). GORSE. Resolved —" That a ratepayer be notified that if he does not remove gorse from the road near his section a man w 4l l be put on to do the work at his expense." UNREGISTERED DOGS. It was decided to prosecute all persons haviug unregistered dogs in their possession. LAMP-LIGHTING. It was agreed to call for tenders for the lighting of lamps for twelve months, tenders to be in by May lGth. RATES. Resolved—" That a)\ persons owing rates over 2s be summoned forthwith." PAY SHEET. The pay-sheet for the month amounted to £24 14s 9d. ROAD CROSSINGS. The chairman thought it would be a great boom to the town if ashphalt crossings were made at various parts of the town, viz.:—From the Geraldine Hotel to the sale yards ; from the Geraldine Hotel to R. Morrison's store; from Road Board Office to Post Office; and from Albert's corner to Dunlop's corner. It was resolved that the works committee report at a special meeting on May 16th on this matter, as to its possibility, and the number of crossings requiredNEW LAMPS. Mr Williams drew the board's attention to the need of new lamps for back streets. —The matter was left in the hands of the works committee to report on. The board then rose.
