The steamer lonic, which put into the Cape with a broken shaft, resumed her voyage to New Zealand on Thursday. Dunedin, April 9. During the voyage of the Alcestis from Kaipara, the master reports, a succession of gales were met with when near Cape Egmont, from the 25th March till the 3rd April. On the 25th, when between Cape Egmont and Cape Farewell, at 5 p.m., a sea resembling a tidal wave came roaring towards the ship, and struck her amidships smashing the gig, the bow of the lifeboat, doing other damage, and carrying the debris overboard.
