Correspondence was dealt with as follows : From Mr James Cassie, asking to have the name of Bryce Wright placed on the rate roll in place of his own for properly at Gapes’s Valley.—Mr Wright’s consent to be obtained. From Mr W. P. Studholme, requesting that the name of W. Mill bo substituted for his on the rate books for part R.S. 10910. —Granted. From Mr G. H. Patrick, Rangitata, requesting the Board to open the watercourse near Mr Wheelband’s property.— Copy of letter to be sent to the Mount Peel Board, and Mr Shiers to report in conjunction with Mr Macfarlane. From Mr John Love, Gapes’s Valley, asking the board to shingle i or 5 chains
of the mad passing his house towards the hills.—The overseer to get the work done. Emm four ratepai ers, Belfiold, requesting the Board to put pipes across the road fc'> carry water from the Government drain down a drain already cut through part of the Orari estate.—The board will grant pipes if applicants will pay for putting them down. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, informing the board that the Land Board does not see its way to grant Lot 3 block 1, South Bangitata Township, to be set apart for a gravel reserve,—The clerk to enquire on what terms the Government will part with the section, INTERVIEW. Mr Kelliher waited on the board to get dams repaired at Pleasant Valley to prevent overflow of Temple’s ford on to the road.—The board agreed to do the work. FORDS AND CREEKS. A discussion took place with reference to clearing fords and creeks, and it was decided to clear all creeks and fords as far as necessary for the benefit of roads. overseer’s report. The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as under ; “Contracts —The contracts in hand have made good progress during the past month, the weather having been favourable for shingling. No. 369 ; Shingling Beautiful Valley Road. The shinglefor this contract is all out, and the work will bofinished next week. N 0.370; Shingling Cooper’s Creek Road. This work is progressing satisfactorily, and will be completed in about ten days. The draymen have been employed in effecting repairs to various roads, and are at present employed on the protective works at the river terrace above the Orari Bridge. If the terrace above the angle of the road is to be effectually protected a few more iron rails will have to be obtained, the stock on hand not being sufficient for that purpose. Small Birds—The season is now over 8001| dozen eggs and heads have been paid for, costing £66 13s 7d, and 15301bs of poisoned wheat have been issued to fanners and ratepayers during the year. Rates—This year’s rate has been collected with the exception of 8s 8d outstanding. I have also recovered £1 2s lOd of last year’s rate '.caving 3s Id unpaid to date. Balance Sheet—l have prepared the Annual Balance-Sheet, showing receipts and expenditure for year ended March 31st, 1893.—1 have, etc., “Wm. Skiers, “ Overseer.”
The report was read and considered very satisfactory, members expressing themselves, that as far as rate collecting was concerned, they had the “ cleaned*■ rate book of any board in Canterbury. It was agreed to ’procure 20 iron rails, and complete tbe protective works at river terrace above Orari bridge. ANNUAL MEETING. It was resolved to hold the board’s annual meeting on May Ist. ACCOUNTS. The accounts for the month amounted to £2BB 5s 6d. The board then rose.
