NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS. TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS FOR TIMARU RACES, APRIL 13th AND 14th. ON the 13th a TRAIN will leave Ashburton for Timaru at 7.15 a.m. It will bo due from Rangitata at 8.18 a.m., and will run from Orari to Timaru at the times of the ordinary morning train. A TRAIN FOR THE RACECOURSE will connect at Washdyke with the 10.55 a.m. train from Ashburton to Timaru on the 13th. On the 13th and 14th the AFTERNOON TRAIN from Timaru to Orari will leave at 5,55 p.m. (instead of 3.5 p.m.), and run 2 hours 50 minutes later tnan time-table times. A Train leaving the Racecourse at 0 p.m. will connect at Washdyke with this Train, and a Train leaving at 5.5 p.m. will connect with the North Express Train, which will stop at Washdyke to take up passengers, apll BY ORDER. ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES. THE Board, in pursuance of the power in that behalf conferred by “ The Education Act, 1877 ” (Sec. 60), and “ The School Committees Election Act, 18!) 1,” hereby directs that a PUBLIC MEETING of the Householders in every School District throughout the Education District of South Canterbury, be held on Monday, the twenty-fourth day of April, one thousand' eight hundred and ninety-three, at seven o’clock in the Evening, for the ELECTION of a SCHOOL COMMITTEE for such district for the year ending with the fourth Monday in April next year. The number of members to be elected to form the Committee is as lollows :—“ Where the average attendance of any school or schools under the Committee of a District has not for the last preceding school year exceeded twentyfive children, five members; where the average has exceeded twenty-five and has not exceeded two hundred, seven members; and where the average attendance has exceeded two hundred, nine members.” The place of meeting shall be the schoolhouse in each district, and this is understood to mean the main schoolhouse in any district which has more than one school. At Hannaton the place of meeting shall be at the house of Mr Francis F. Thinn. The Board further directs that the First Meeting of each School Committee be held in the place appointed for the election and immediately alter the election upon the same evening. The Board further calls upon the householders in each of the districts to send in to the Chairman of the School Committee, or r to the Commissioner of the District if there is no Committee, in writing, on or before MONDAY, the J 7th day of April, the names of persons being resident householders, nominated by them for such election to serve upon the Committee. Such nominations must be signed by the proposer and by the candidate, and must be in the form set forth in the schedule to the Act, or to the effect thereof. J. H.
