A deplorable state of affairs is reported front Woogooroo lunatic asylum, as the outcome of tho floods. The inmates Lid to be crowded into the upper parts of the building, and patients iu all degrees of insanity were packed together like sardines. London, Feb. 27. Owing to the second flood and the extent of the losses the Queensland flood committee are appealing to the public for help. The Marquis of Ripon has subscribed £'2o. Another instalment of ;(ilooij was cabled to Queensland to-day. We learn that the collectors in this distiict are doing well and getting a lot of money and produce. The total sum collected will not be known until next Friday, when a meeting will be held. still £5 Jin the bank' The lists are now to be called in and the subscriptions closed. The collection at the Napier cathedral on Sunday in aid of the Queensland fund realised over £33. The Working Men's Club have donated £55. In Napier, with the £250 already cabled, the cash subscriptions to the Queensland relief fund amount to £3lO. A good many lists are yet to come in. In Feilding the Mayor wired £IOO to the Queensland sufferers this morning, and a quantity of produce has been forwarded to Wellington for shipment to Brisbane. Tho Wellington Evening Post's subscriptions amount to £SOO, and the City Council's to £l9O. The Evening Post on Monday cabled £2OO to Brisbane for the relief of the flood sufferers, making £SOO forwarded. The list is still open. The cash subscriptions from Christchurch towards the Queensland relief fund now amounts to £SBB. An aquatic carnhal in aid of the fund is to be held at Lytteltou on March 10th. Further large donations of produce have been made.
In Christchurch it was decided to expend £3OO in the purchase of flour, oatmeal and blankets for transmission to Brisbane. Shipping space has been engaged for 50 tons of produce. The total amount of subscriptions is £726. Thy : c'.wyn County Council have decided that the subscriptions collected by its numbers be converted into produce and go ds for the Queensland sufferers. Tin; ; iiinediu list for the Queensland flonii relief fund is now over £4OO, iudepondont of a number of largo contributions seut direct by several firms. None of tho lists from canvassers are yet to bund.
The Waimate Volunteer Brass Band played some nice selections in Victoria P;irk on Sunday, in aid of the Queensland relief fund. The sum of £4 was collected. The Governor has subscribed £25 to the Queensland Relief Fund. A meeting of the Timaru Relief Fund Committee was held yesterday afternoon. The subscriptions reported (other lists are yet to come in) amount to £270. The value of produce received is £3B 10s ; total £4OO Is sd. It was decided to cable over £370 at once.
