Collision ix Lyttelton Harbor.—A collision occurred last Tuesday in Ly ttelton harbor. The Rimutaka was being 1 brought to a berth at No. 7 wharf, on the opposite side of which the Coptic, with the coal hulk Lota alongside, was lying. Captain Galbraith, the pilot in charge of the llimutaka, gave the order " half speed asfcirn," which was telegraphed to the engine room, but when the bauds of the di.'ii pointed to " full speed ahead," the wire with which the apparatus was worked broke. The engineer went full spued abend. TJie officer in charge of the tcle;r iph saw by hia dial what was wrong, and at once rushed to the engine room, but before the steamer could be checked she ran into the Coptic's bow. The Coptic's forestry was snapped, her head rail.-! and stanchions carried away, the steam hf.ad dinted, and fc'io woodwork splintered. The Lota's stern was damaged.
