CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES.
The last of this season's local sales of wool was completed early this afternoon. Two thousand two hundred bales were offered, and the bulk was disposed of at satisfactory prices. The wool was chiefly ordinary merino station clips and some coarse lots of crossbred and halfbred, many of these being Chatham Islands produce. Prices for ordinary merinos ranged from 6d to 7d, and in the case of one bright clip up to 7jd was obtained. Farmers' heavy short merinos brought 4£d to sjd, and locks up to 3d. What little halfbred wool was offered brought 6fd to B£d, the latter price being given for clean bright wool. Chatham Islands halfbred wool brought s|d to 7d, pieces 2£d to 4£d, locks l|d to 2d. Scoured first pieces brought up to Is lfd, second pieces to Is thirds to 9fd, scoured locks up to lOd. Altogether the sale compared favorably with the preceding one. TIMARU MARKETS.
The Canterbury Farmers' Association, Limited, report as follows for the week ending February 24th :
Wheat—Business in new wheat has been very limited, and only of a local character, sellers being unwilling to accept prices offered by exporters ; which seems to be only a matter of a few weeks if growers desire to sell, as in the present state of the Home market there is not much inducement for speculation. Oats Prices have been easier. The prospect of a demand in North Australia has been choked by large supplies from Victoria having been shipped in anticipation, aud business is somewhat at a standstill, buyers not caring to speculate. Barley—Very little in the market. We have heard of sales at 4s for prime lots and have several enquires for malting lines. Ryegrass has improved a little iu price, the quantity offering being much less than in previous years. Quotations are as follow, f.0.b., sacks extra:—
