GERALDINE 2nd v. COLONIALS 2nd Tho above match came oil' at Timaru on Thursday afternoon, and was quite as interesting as any of the second eleven matches. The Colonials won the toss, and decided to send Geraldine to the wicket, liethune and Hill opened, and tho latter was dismissed for 2 by playing a ball s-oftly into the hands of Cornish. G. Bethune played a fine bat, and looked good for 20 at least, but had the misfortune to bo run out when he had just passed double figures. Morrison followed on, and, with careful play and unfailing good luck, he literally won the match with the good score of 34. During his innings Morrison gave several good chances, and one very easy catch into the hands of one of the fielders, but in every case " his luck was in." For the Colonials, the only man who reached double figures was Bussell. In the bowling Allan, for the Colonials, took 8 wickets for 30 runs. Robson, for Geraldine, took 3 wickets for 31 runs, and Morrison 5 wickets for 18 runs. Considering that the pitch was very " lumpy," and balls were continually on the rise, and that the Colonials had several of their hrst eleven men in the match, Geraldine gained a very creditable victory. A match was played at Temuka on Thursday afternoon between second elevens of Timaru and Temuka. The visitors arrived shortly after two, but it was not until past three that the game was started, a number of the Temuka men not turning up. Timaru won the toss and elected to bat, Velvin and Brosnahan being put in to bowl. The wicket was somewhat dead and the bowling effective, Velvin's analysis being particularly good. Brosnahan also bowled well, but retired towards the close of the innings, McLean taking his place. Timaru's innings closed for 73 runs, some of which would have been saved had the fielding been smarter. The local men succeeded in putting together 34, of which McCaskill made 8, and Anderson 7.
