A BERSAVED FAMILY.
A very sad drowning accident happened at Bodalla on Saturday 28th, involving the loss ox two ladies of well-known Sydney families. Several ladies of the Smart family and some friends were bathing in the Turrose river, near Comeraug, when Mrs Edward Smart, of Derranguist, and Mars H, Dight, of Darling Point, Sydney, who was thereon a visit,"got into one of the teacborous holes with which the river abounds, and before assistance could arrive they were both drowned. Miss hhioenie Smart, daughter of Mr Laidle.'/ Smart, who was rescued by her mother had a narrow escape. The circumstances of the accident are exceptionally sad, as the rest of the party wore comparatively near at hand, but had n<> idea of what was happening until too late, Mrs Edward Smart was honoured and esteemed throughout the whole disas a true and warm-hearted woman. On the Tuesday following additional sadness was imparted to the event by the death of Miss Dight’s. youngest sister, seventeen yegrs u< age, from a snake bite. She w;vs stopping with her brother-in-law near Ailmry and whilst returning on Sunday morning from her bath-room, which was some distance from the house, was bitten on the ancle by a snake. She make light of the occurrence at first, but symptoms
of blood poisoning soon showed themselves. Vigorous remedies were applied, and the patient got so well that next morning she was considered out of danger. She, however, collapsed again during the afternoon, and died! Great sympathy is expressed for the family in their double bereavement.
