GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present— Messrs A. White (chairman), W. S, Masliu, J. Williams, R. Y. Fergusson, R. Hammond, and J. Sutherland. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as under ; From Mr Charles Green re the removal of gorse; that if board clears sections he will pay the cost.—Tenders to be called for the work. From the manager Bank of New Zealand, informing the board that £7 10s, interest on matured deposit, had been placed to the board’s current account. From Mr A. Baker, applying for permission to erect a verandah over the footpath in front of his shop.—Granted. From Mr R. Y. Ferguson, asking to have his name placed on the rate roll.— Granted. REPOETS. The overseer’s report on work done was read. FIXED DEPOSIT. It was resolved that the sum of £IOO be placed at fixed deposit in the Bank of New Zealand for twelve months. DOMAIN BOARD. It was carried that the sura of £lO be asked from the Domain Board on account owing to Town Board. RATES. It was resolved that His Lordship Bishop Grimes be written to re rates on manse. It was resolved that all rates of 5s and upwards be sued for forthwith. CASH RECEIPTS. The cash receipts of .the month were read as follows; Town Board: Rates, £26 14s lOd ; dogs, £3 10s ; rents, £1 ss; sale of material, £3 10s 6d; total, £35 0s 4d. Domain Board, £3 10s. PAY SHEET. The pay-sheet for the month amounted to £l6 15s 9d. THE PAN SYSTEM. A letter of advice was read from tka board’s solicitor re the pan system for the removal of nightsoil. The letter showed that the power bestowed on the board by “The Municipal Corporation Act, 1886,” and Public Health Act, 1876,” were sufficient to enable the board to carry out the system without making any by-law.
It was resolved that the pan system for the removal of nightsoil be adopted, and come into force in the town district of Geraldine on a date to be duly advertised by the board. It was decided to invite tenders for next board meeting for the removal of nightsoil, the Finance Committee with clerk to draw up specifications. The chairman and Mr Maslin were authorised to see Temuka and Timarn carts, and call for tenders for most suitable one for Geraldine.
It was resolved to adjourn the present meeting for a fortnight. The board then rose.
