The English wheat market is steady; the Continental inactive; the American steady. Australian parcels, prompt shipment, have been sold at 31s 3d. Jan. 15. The Statist says that the fact that the Bank of France dp ceasing to purchase gold and has givdn notice to the Bank of England to prepare for the removal of the former’s credit balance, indicates danger to the bi-metallic system, and gravely adds to the difficulties of the political situation. Jan. 16. A small Australian cargo of wheat, January and February shipment, has been sold at 32s and two other parcels at 31s 6d and 31s 3d, respectively. Wheat, is 6d dearer. Washington, Jan. IG.

Lakbikinism, —A gang of eight youths was brought before the Christchurch police court on Tuesday morning on a charge of throwing stones and assaulting two men who were passing in a cart in Sydenham. Four were convicted, one of whom was fined 10s, and the other three were sentenced to one month. The Bench said that they were determined to stamp out larrikinism, and if imprisonment would not do so, something more severe would follow.
