ST. SAVIOUR’S SUNDAY SCHOOL, TEMUKA.
The annual distribution of prizes in connection with the above school took place on Sunday last in the schoolroom. There was the usual large attendance of children and a fair sprinkling of parents. After the opening service the superintendent, Mr Robt. Pinckney, invited the Rev. M. W. Butterfield to address the children.
The Rev. Mr Butterfield having apologised for the absence of the Rev. Mr Gillam, who was holding service at Rangitata, said that it gave him great pleasure to be present in the Sunday School that day. He himself had been a Sunday School teacher for years, and had, in fact, one of the largest classes in the diocese. He felt it a great privilege to be able to engage in such work, and he was sure that the children would also esteem it a privilege to have the benefit of the teaching of the school. By arrangement, Mr Gillam and himself would be able to devote two Sundays in the month to school work, and he hoped soon to be on good terms with teachers and scholars. He urged the children to be diligent and attentive in their studies, as by such conduct they would not only please their teachers but do their duty towards God. The prizes were then awarded as follow :
