A SUMMER DRINK.
Persons who are obliged to be out of doors during the intense heat of summer, and desire a nice, cooling, strengthening beverage,. will find nothing better than fresh buttermilk. It is better than the alcholic drinks, beer or cider, and for quenching thirat is preferable to lemonade, aside from the fact that the latter is an expensive, drink to prepare, wlnl-j the milk may be usually obt lined for the asking. It is useful in fevers, and if it were not so .cheap and easily obtainable would be used more freely than it is. ' It should not be taken in largo quantities, but a little at a time, and that slowly. In every case when the body is heated by or burning with fevui', drink little' 1 and 1 often. Buttermilk acts freely upon the secretive organs, stimulating the action of the kidneys and liver, and acts as a mild laxative, purifying the bloo by removing through the channel named the effete and un healthy secretions, and at the same timo ' it is nourishing. When taking auy drink to the field during the heat of summer, it Bhould~Fe"'Eept"~as"cbol as possible without the aid of ice, and whether in a can, jug, or covered pail£ should be wrapped with a wet cloth and kept in the shade. The contents will then be several degrees below the surrounding atm sphere. A wrapping of several thicknesses of moistened paper will produce the same result. One pail ins;do another is used.
