THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I notice that a complaint has been made that the Acclimatisation Societies take no trouble to keep open the mouth of the Opihi, and that consequently license holders are debarred from getting as much sport as they ought to. This is hardly the case. The Acclimatisation Society is always ready to keep open the river bar, and spends a good deal of money on it from time to time. Latterly there has been a very fair mouth, but the channel leading to it had a trend to the north, and when this is the case the lagoon does not empty quite so readily. As far as the fishing is concerned, the rivers for the last fortnight have been in partial flood, and not in the best of order. There is a wide mouth to the river n ow, but its perman en ce will depend on wind and weather.— Yours, etc., N. C. Nicholas.
