CHEISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS,
At the Addington yards on Wednesday there were fair entries of stock. Fat Sheep—The entry was larger than for a few weeks past, and the quality was gener:illy good. Towards the close of the sale prices for inferior sheep were somewhat easier. A line of extra prime Southdown wethers realised from lGs 6d to 225. Crossbred wethers ranged from 13s 9d to lGs Gd, and extra prime lots 18s to 18s Gd. A small pen of woolly crossbreds reached 245. Crossbred ewes sold at from 10s to 13s 9d, crossbred wethers and maiden ewes 13s 2d to 15s, merino wethers 7s lOd to 10s 9d, and a line of merino wethers in the wool from Longbeach 12s 3d to 14s. Best mutton realised from 2d to 3£d ; very prime a trifle over.
Fat Lambs were in good demand, and sold at 13s to 14s 6d for best pens; 10s 6d to 12s 6d for medium, and 9s 4d to 10s for inferior.
Store Sheep Store sheep sold well, especially forward conditioned lines. A iine of crossbred wethers sold at 14s Gd, and the general run was 12s to 13s 3d. Two-tooths sold at lis 9d to 12s 9d. Merino ewes and lambs brought lis to lis 9d, and crossbred ewes and lambs from 14s Id to 19s 2d.
Store Cattle—There was a good sale for all kinds of store cattle, yearlings and eighteen-month-olds selling at £2 10s, two-year-olds at £3 Bs, a line of three and four-year-old steers at £6 8s 6d. Cows sold at various prices up to £7 12s 6d. Fat Cattle —There was a large entry oi fat cattle, and prices were about the same as last week. Steers sold at from £6 5s to £9 ss, and a prize animal at £11; cows at from £5 10s to £9, and heifers £4 17s 6d to £7 15s. Best beef ranged from 18s to 20s per 1001 b. Pigs sold at late rates, and there was a good demand. Baconers fetched equal to 3£d per lb, and porkers 4d.
CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES. The wool sales were held at Christchurch on Thursday and till late in the evening. Results showed that buyers were eager to secure good lines. Bright halfbred wools realised up to 9Jd, crossbreds 6Jd to S£d, merino 5d to 7£d, best pieces to 7d.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Dec. 14. Wheat, chick, 2s 9d to 2s lid; milling, 4s Bd, nominal. Flour, New Zealaud, £8 10s to £lO. Oats, feeding sorts, 2s 5d to 2s 7d; seed, 2a 9d ; buyers are offering 2s 6Jd, at which price purchases are made to arriv e from New Zealand. Maize, 4s Id to 4s 2d. Barley, New Zealand grown, English, 4s Id to 4s 2d. Bran, New Zealand, 9d to 9Ja. Pollard, New Zealand, 10Jd. Peas, Prussian Blues, 4s 6d. Potatoes, New Zealand, nominal, at £2 to£2 10s, limited demand. Onions, £4 to £4 ss. Butter, dairy-made, 7d to 8d ; factorymade, 8d to 9d. Cheese, choice, s£d. Bacon, New Zealand, Bid; hams, 11 Jd to Is. Dec. 15. The wool market continues active and all descriptions are meeting with good enquiry. Prices have not recovered from the recent slight fall, but competition is well sustaiued. French and German buyers are operating freely. Up to date 224,000 bales have been offered, of which 200,000 were sold. The following are current prices : —Greasy fleece, good, 7§d to B§d; superior," 9d to lid ; lambs, good, 6£d to7jd; superior, 8d to 9£d; crossbreds, good, 8d to 8f d; superior, 9d to 9£d ; scoured fleeces, good, Is Id to Is If d ; superior, Is 3d to Is 5d ; washed, good, lOd to 10|d; superior, lid to is Oid.
Melbourne, Dec. 14. Wheat, 3s sd. Flour, roller-made, * 8 10s to £9. Oats, dull, new Algerian, Is 8d; stout white, 2s to 2s 2d. Bran, B£d ; pollard, 9d to lOd. Barley, prime malting, 3s Id. Potatoes, New Zealand, £2 to £2 ss.
Butter, dairy-made, 9|d; factory-made, UJd. Cheese, sd. Bacon, Bd, with a downward tendency. Dec. 15.
Two victims of the land boom have failed, the deficiency in the two case 3 aggregating £IOO,OOO. It is estimated that this season's export of butter will reach 4000 tons. Adelaide, Dec. 14. Wheat, new, 3s 3&d: old, 3s 4£d. Flour, roller-made, £9. Oats, 3? 2d to 33 4d. Bran and pollard, 7&d.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, December 14. At the wool sales faulty and burry wools are neglected, and prices are weak all round. A large number of bales have been withdrawn. Australian shipments brought from Sd to Is ll£d per lb. The city merchants consider that the proposal to grade butter shipped in the colonies will be fruitless, as the voyage alters the value of the article. The total quantity of wheat and flour afl .at for the United Kingdom is 2,858,000 quart era aud for the Continent 856,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 0,000,000 bushels. At ilia wool sales competition is better aud prices .'ire slightly iiLiner. Heavy burry wools are neglected. The brokers predict that it will be difficult for Victoria to place leans in 1803, and consider it impossible to convert the 5 per cents, \mlea-s on heavy terms, and and suggest local conversion. The imports of Australian wines have increased 52,000 g.dlons in 11 months.
