CRICKET.

COLONIAL 2nd V. GERALDINE 2nd. This match came off in the Geraldine Domain on Thursday afternoon. Tne Colonials put in an appearance about four o’clock, and it was decided to play a three hours’ game, drawing the stumps at 7 o’clock. The visitors took to fielding first, and Geraldine went to the wickets, facing a pair of good bowlers—Allen and Boys. It looked very black for Geraldine at the start, the wickets of some of the best bats falling, one after the other, to the “dead on” bowling of their opponents. Bethune had very hard luck, his middle stump doing a caper to the first ball of the match from Boys. R. Morrison just broke his “ duck ” when a ball from Allen settled him. Another of Allen’s balls sent Robson back without a run to his credit, and it would have gone pretty hard with Geraldine if it had not been for the stand taken by Kalaugher and Leversedge. Kalaugher played carefully for 12, when one of Allen’s balls found his wickets. Leversedge was in splendid batting form, and exhibited some very pretty play, but did not have time to put up a score. He managed, however, to increase the score by 9 before the innings ended. In this innings Allen took 7 wickets for 19 runs. Although the Colonials’ fielding and bowling were good, their batting was not much, and Kalaugher and Morrison soon found the wickets. Cornish, Rice, and Boys made 7, 10, and 11, respectively, the others did not help the score much. Kalaugher took 4 wickets for 7 runs. When Geraldine went in again it looked as though they would still lose the game before time was called. Four of the best men were out for three runs, again falling easy prey to Alleu’s bowling. R. Morrison, however, went to the wicket and saved his side, By cool play he knocked up the decent score of 32, and made a couple of good hits—one for four and another for five. The scores were as follow:
