CRICKET.

The match between the second elevens of Geraldine and Temuka was played on Thursday in the Victoria Park, and. resulted in a win for the former team by 18 runs. The bowling of Morrison, Kalaugher, and Robson, for Geraldine, was very good; the fielding of the team, with one or two exceptions, was not up to the mark; the only man who did well with the bat was Bethune, who played good cricket and made top score lor his side in both innings. The other men all found the bowling too much for them. For Temuka, in the first innings, Velvin rattled down the wickets at a great rate, he performed the hat trick in one over ; in the second innings McLean was very successful with the ball, Velvin not being so straight on the wicket. Anderson fielded excellently, the majority of his team doing just the reverse, plainly showing that they had not gone in for fielding practice as they should hive done; Anderson ran up a score of 18 in the first innings, and that was about all the batting that was done during the afternoon by the local team. The members of both teams should not forget when next they play a match that smart fielding will often win a game, and gives as much pleasure to. the onlookers to witness as does good batting or bowling, and it is to be hoped that they will improve themselves in that respect by all means in their power. The analysis was not taken except in the second innings, when McLean took 6 wickets for 15, and Velvin 4 wickets for 19 ; On the other side Robson took 7 wickets for 6, Kalaugher 2 wickets for 10,
