RIVER CONSERVATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In a report which 'ppeared in your paper of a meeting held at Pleasant Point last Friday re the encroachment of river on the township, I think Mr Howell deserves credit for the stand he took, and the views he gave utterance to on the question. It is really a local matter, and it should be dealt with as such. The owners of the property concerned shoulcT form a board among themselves for river conservation. It would be decidedly unfair for some of us in this part of the county that the county rates should be taken for the purpose in question, seeing that we are already taxed with a special rate, outside the county rate,by the South Orari River Board. —I am, etc., Ratepayer. Winchester, Nov. 24th, 1892.
