Sydney, Nov. 17. Arrived —Lubeck, from Samoa. There was great excitement in Apia when she left, owing to the tribal war which had broken out in the island of Tutuita. The quarrel was a family dispute which originated in rival claims to the title of “ manga,” or head chief. The matter has gone so far, and so much bloodshed has already occurred, that the quarrel may assume a political aspect. Hostilities began on the morning of October 24th, by the chief Leiato and his follower's makingJ a raid on tlx? village of Ana, killing 4 and wounding 1. Un the 29th the chief of Fagatona and Ana went to Pi. -ouagO to endeavor to arrange peace, but on Ins the beach, the Fagasaa people, who had Joined the Pagqpago party, fired upon them, killing two and wounding three others. A little later Fagatona and otjpjr villages were burned, Leiato and his people returned to Annua, and entrenched themselves there in a verv strong position with plenty °f provisions. The Titian too and Tualatu inland +l 'ibe« are about to join Loiato, and if they do the whole of Tutuila will be involved, in the war. Plenty of ammunition is said to be available. H.M.S. Ringarooma has arrived. The object of her visit is unknown, but the conjecture most freequently hasjarde/l is that her commander has instructigus as to the definite annexation of Samoa. The latest news states that the natives are now fighting in the Bay of Pagopago, and that the town has been destroyed. No native houses are said to bo standing, but European property is said to be safe so far, though tiro Samoans threaten to burn the whites out.
