Great interest was taken in the steamer race. The official time of the departure from Otago Heads of the Warrimoo was 3.5, and the Mararoa 3.21. The Warrimoo arrived at Lyttelton Heads at 3.5, and the Mararoa at 3.9. The latter thus won by 12 minutes in the run from heads to heads, but she gained several miles by hugging the shore near the heads. Both steamers did 16 knots. The time is said to be the fastest yet made by merchant vessels on this route.

Wellington, November 18. The Mararoa and Warimoo, which arrived from Lyttelton early this morning, took exactly 11 hours 20 minutes each to accomplish the voyage.
