CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE,
The following is the Corn Exchange report (per F. Denham, Secretary), for the week ending November 19th : As usual with the carnival week, it has disorganised everything in the way of trade, and the operations have been almost nothing. Wheat—Some of the holders seem at last to understand the position, and are willing to sell at last week’s quotations, but buyers are difficult to find even at 3s 2d to 3s 3d, f.0.b., for prime samples. Lower grades are inquired for at prices that are ruinous to the growers, but stocks must pass on at some price, and the sooner the better. Oats are easier. We think the public must have ceased eating porridge and gone in heavily for potatoes, the demand for milling being so small. Potatoes A spasmodic enquiry for a few, but the demand by no means large. They are risky goods to hold at this season of the year. Dairy Produce is asked for. Butter is in request. Cheese—The stocks are low. The following are prices to farmers’, f.0.b., packages extra, potatoes and millers’ goods excepted : Wheat—Prime milling, all kinds, 8s 2d to 3s 3d; whole fowl, 2s to 2s 3d, cannot find an intermediate line or price. Oats—Milling, Is lid; feed, Is 7d to Is lOd, Potatoes—los at stations. Peas—Blue, 3s Id. Beans —3s. Flour—Roller, £9, Bran —555. Pollard—6os. sacks included. Butter —Farmers’, 7d to 8d; fresh factory, lid. Cheese —Large, 4fd; loaf, 5-|-d.
