Lord; Sentinel, Bro. Willoughby. After this th' u -ual social was held and buns and coffee handed round. Gambling Cases. — At the Resident Magistrate’s Court. Christchurch, on Monday, before Mr Beetham, two men, named George Hyde and Walter Williams, were fined £2O each for being occupiers of a certain place in the racecourse reserve and betting upon certain events contrary to Section 11 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, and for betting by means of cards and a book used as an instrument of wagering at a game of chance contrary to Section 8 of the Act. The same men were charged with refusing to leave the course after being warned to do so by an authorised person. In this case judgment was reserved.
