DAVYS' "BRIGHT LIGHTS."
Davys' Bright Lights," a Specialty and Marionette Company, appeared at the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Friday evening, when there was only a moderate attendance. The programme was a very spicy one, and afforded an excellent evening's amusement. Professor Morton introduced the programme with an overture on the piano, and a very amusing farce, "The Two Suitors," took up the first part of the entertainment. Miss Georgie Devoe, the only lady member of the company, sang the serio-comic songs "Wink the other Eye" and "Men." Mr Fred Davys was exceptionally good in the character song " It fills my Bosom," and a comic skit on the " Eight Hours Movement." Tom Griffon, a negro, appeared a 3 " The Strange Coon," and being encored for " Going to the Ball," sang " If there's any room in Heaven." Another good item was the eccentricities and quick change to American top-boot dance by Fred Davoys and George Dovoe. The flute and clarionet soloa by Prof. Morton were specialities, Messrs Griffin and Smith produced a laughable sketch entitled " I'll play That," and then came the " American Marionettes," which represented in turn arcobats, jugglers, a magic Turk, an animated skeleton, the runaway of a donkey with a cart, followed with a general smash up. The whole performance concluded with a number of brilliant transformation scenes with lime light effects- This part of the programme alone was an entertainment in itself. On Saturday evening the company gave a similar entertainment in the Tomuka Volunteer Hall. There was n fair houso, and all presont appeared well pleased with the bill of fare provided, The company are now playing in Timaru.
