CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE,

The following is the Corn Exchange report (per F. Denham, Secretary), for the week ending November 12th : The leading houses in the grain trade have been closed for the greater part of the week, and if they had closed for the balance it would not have made much difference to the amount of trade done. Wheat—We fear our remarks of last week are but too true, and prices have given way. but not knowing of any transactions worth recording at a lower rate we repeat last week’s quotations. Oats, Barley, Peas, and Beans—All inactive. Potatoes —The shipments of the week have been small, and are likely to get less. No orders of any size on hand. Dairy Produce—Active at quotations, the English market being very firm. The following are prices paid to farmers’, f.0.b., packages extra, potatoes and millers goods excepted : Wheat Prime milling, os 4d ; others, Is 9d to 2s 6d. Barley—Useless quoting. Oats—Milling, Is lid ; feed, Is 7d to Is lOd. Flour—Best brand. roller. Bran—sss. Pol-lard—-GOs, sacks included. Potatoes —lO s stations. Butter—Farmers’. 7d to 9d ; fresh factory, lid. Cheese —Scarce, 3d to sd. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending November 8 : Sheepskins—(Shorn pelts are now beginning to come forward, but unless these are carefully looked after a serious depreciation in value takes place. For green butchers’ skins there are at present less buyers than for lines which have been carefully dried, and it is doubtful if the latter do not sell better in comparison than the former. At auction on Tuesday butchers’ best crossbreds brought os to 5s (id ; extra heavy halfbreds, os 9d to 6s; medium, 4s to os; merinos, 3s to 4s; well-saved pelts, 9d to is; lambskins, lOd to Is 3d; dry skins, corresponding rates.

Hides—Values are without alteration, and may be quoted as follows : Prime heavy ox, to 3d per lb; extra heavy a shade more ; medium. 2d to 21jd: average weight, mixed

classes, Ifd to 2d; light, I^-d; inferior and damaged l£d.

Tallow All lots change hands freely at the following rates, nor would a considerate increase in the supply affect values meantime : Best rendered mutton tallow is worth 19s to 20s per cwt; medium to good, 17s to 18s (id ; average mixed, Ids Gd to 17s ; inferior, 13s to 14s ; clean unrendered mutton caul fat, 13s Gd : mixed, 12s Gd to 13s ; rough fat, 10s Gd to 12s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Nov. 9. Wheat, chick, 3s; milling, 4s 7d to 4s 8d ; New Zealand, 4s 3d. Flour, New Zealand, from £8 15s. Oats, 2s 3d to 2s 4d. Maize, 3s Gd to 3s 9d. Wool continues firm, There is active foreign competition, especially among the American buyers. Brussels, Nov. 9. At the opening of the Antwerp wool sales there was an average attendance of buyers, and fair competition. 2d32 bales were offered, 1300 being sold. As compared with last Antwerp sales there was a fall of o centimes in fleece wool, but the rales for pieces were unchanged ; while lambs showed a rise of 5 centimes. The Antwerp wool sales have closed. The attendance of buyers and the competition were disappointing, and about half the quantity was withdrawn.
