The premises of Weisner, jeweller, in George Street, were burglariosuly entered last night, and jewellery to the value of £I2OO stolen. The Bank of New South Wales has declared a dividend of 15 per cent for the year, and a bonus of 2-£ per cent. The sum of £IO,OOO was carried to the reserve fund. The Rev. Mr Chalmers was consecrated as Bishop of Goulbourn today. The leading church dignitaries of Australia were present at the ceremony, which was an impressive one.
Melbourne, Nov. 1
The Intercolonial Conference of Surveyors has opened, Mr R. L. J. Ellery, Government Astronomer, Victoria, presiding. A resolution was carried affirming the desirableness of a uniform examination for surveyors in the various colonies, and the Conference is now discussing details with a view to giving practical effect to the resolution,.
Brisbane, Nov. 1
The Crown has decided to prosecute the Howard Smith Steamship Company for breach of the Dividend Act, in not making the declarations required from companies trading in Queensland. The penalties claimed amount to £14,000.
