STOCK CONFERENCE.
Tho final sitting of the Stock Conference was held .at Wellington on Monday. The New Zealand Kennel Club wrote on the subject of the quarantine of dogs, and suggested that the regulations be amended so that the time occupied on tho voyage be counted in the six months' quarantine. The Conference decided that they could not recommend the relaxation of the regulations, and in reply to further requests of the club, decided that the locality of the several quarantine stations must bo left to the various Governments; that the Conference could not recommend private quarantining or any alteration in the present period of quarantine. A letter was received from the Chief Inspector of stock for South Australia, requesting (1) a reduction in the period of quarantining sheep and pigs ; (2) that horses be permitted to land at Port Darwin under certain conditions. The first question had already been decided in the direction desired, but the Conference decliaed to accede to the wish that horses be landed unless a thorough veterinary inspection was made. The delegates left for the south on Monday and were accompanied by Ritchie, of the Stock Department. They go as far as Invercargill, and will inspect the dairies and stock in the south.
The Stock Department has ordered that prior to declaring the colony clean a full inspection be made of flocks last infected with scab with a view of deciding whether it is thoroughly eradicated.
Mr Ritchie shortly visits the Hamner Plains to report on the rabbit fence there.
