The Cobbett-Sullivan Fight. — The American correspondent of the Otago Daily Times winds up some remarks anent this set-to as follows: —I have gathered the following from many sources : A million of dollars changed hands over the feather, light, and heavy weight championships. There were 8000 people present when Corbett thrashed Sullivan. For the three fights the gate money was 17;>.000dol. Special trains ran from New York, Chicago, Mexico, and other places, Seven hundred reporters were present. The great dailies had wires laid from the ring side to their offices. Two "ladies,” disguised as men, attempted to gain admittance. A special contingent of sports and reporters came from England. The prize money and stakes amounted to 80,000dol. In each fight the winners were barely touched ; the losers badly beaten —the great Sullivan worst of all. The sporting fraternity backed Sullivan almost to a man. They are now “ dead broke.”
