STOCK CONFERENCE.
The Australasian Stock Conference was opened at Wellington on Tuesday, iu the Parliamentary Buildings. There were present Messrs Tabart (chief inspector of stock in Tasmania), Park (Government veterinary surgeon for Tasmania), Bruce (Chief inspector of stock in New South Wales), Goolan (chief inspector of stock in Queensland), John Roberts and Thomas Brydone (Otago), W. Boag (Canterbury), F. Lawry,M.H.R. (Auckland), J. D. Ritchie (secretary of the New Zealand Department of Agriculture, and J. McLean (Government veterinary surgeon for Jsevr Zealand). Sir John Hall was elected chairman. Each colony will have three votes. The Conference arranged that the following Bhould be subjects for discussion:— (I) Regulations regarding the introduction of foreign animals and foreign diseases, that is, disease* not known in Australasia. (2) Regulations regarding the introduction of Australasian animals —(a) by sea, (b) by land. (3) Regulations regarding disease—(a) scab, (b) catarrh, (c) fluko, (d) worms, (e) foot rot, (f) anthrax, (g) pleuropneumonia, (h) tuberculosis, (i) stringhalt, (k) ooooidium and actinomycosis, (1) prurigo (horse man« 9) Queensland. (4) Rabbit pest. (5) Chilled meat trade. (6) Studbook for Australasia. Mr F. Tabart read a paper on "Quarantine Regulations," which will be discussed when printed. The remainder of the sitting was devoted to considering regulations for the importation of stock into the colonies. At 5 p.m. the Conference adjourned to the following day.
