OUR VOLUNTEERS. i The Geraldine Rifles mustered at the j range yesterday morning at 5.30 for volley and indepeu 'ent firing when Capt. Coleman, Sergeant-Major Jones, and Captain R. H. Pearpoint were present. Firing was under the command of Lieut. McKenzie. The full firing strength of the company is 37, but only one squad of 20 firing members put in an appearance, so that the Geraldie Corps put themselves off the prize by not having two thirds of the corps present. The result of the the firing was: —Volley firing, 6.83; Independent firing, 7.08. TheAshburton company have yet to fire, and that completes the firing far South Canterbury. Only two companies, viz., the Waimate and the Timaru C Battery, mustered the necessary two thirds, and the Waimate company at present take the load. The following are the scores up to tha present:— Waimate- -Full firing strength of company 42, number that fired 34. Points: Volley, 10.52; Independent, 12.53, C. Battery, Timaru—Firing strength 55, number fired 33. Points : Volley, 5.02. Timaru Navals Firing strength 61, number fired 25. Points: Volley, 3.57. Timaru Rifles—Owing to rain coming on only one squad in this company fired. Points : Volley, 12.66; Independent, 16.44.

Temuka Rifles Firing strength 40, number present, one squad 19. Points : Volley, 12.63; Independent, 12.0. Geraldine Rifles—Firing strength 37, number present, one squad 20. Points : Volley, 5.83; Independent, 7.08.
