London, Oct. 20. Mr Ben Tillet predicts that the forthcoming winter will be the worst that the dock labourers have experienced for fifteen years. There are already 90,000 men idle. The Standard says to advance the rate on discount as the result of an export of gold will not increase the trade. Paris, Oct. 20. The mining companies and the men in Karmaux have accepted the President's offer to act as arbitrator. The Paris municipality have voted ten thousand francs in aid of the strikers. Oct. 22. The miners on strike threaten not to accept the decision of the Premier, who is arbitrating in the matter adversely to them. New York, Oct. 21. An incendiary fire occurred at a house in Homestead in which 120 non-unionists were sleeping. Sydney, Oct. 22. At Broken Hill the mine owners are gradually replacing the men on strike. In some cases unionists have been engaged.
