LIFE IN MEXICO.
DmtANGO (Mexico), Sept. S. Another crime was committed yesterday south of this city, on the trail which leads through the Sierra Madre mountains to Mazatlan. Selas Maries, agent of the State bank of this city, was on the way to Mazatlan with 12.000 dol. in gold coin, which was to be transported to Guaymas. The gold was carrried in bags or burros. Knowing the dangerous character of the country through which he was to pass, Maries was accompanied by five guards well armed. When abo:it fifty miles south of here, and just, as they were making an ascent of a range of .nigged mountains, they were attacked by a band of brigands which have been the terror of that section for several years. Two of the guards were killed at. the first volley. Maries and his three remaining men returned the fire, but were soon overpowered and Maries and the guards shot down, with the exception of one man, who claimed to have escaped down a defile in the mountains.
