PORT OF TIMARU. ARRIVED. October 18—Dingadee, s.s., 450 tons, Anderson, from the north. SAILED. October 18—Dingadee, s.s,, 450 tons, Anderson, for Dunedin. Wellington, October 18. The lonic arrived at 10 o’clock this morning, having scarlatina on board. The sufferers will be removed to the quarantine station. Passenger for Timaru —Miss K. Augland. The Hinernoa sailed for Onehunga, via New Plymouth, at 6 this evening. Bluff, October 17. Arrived—Waihora, from Melbourne, via Hobart, at 6.80 a.m. She left Melbourne at 2-40 p.xn. on the 11th. Sydney, October 18. News has been received that the barque Pactole, which left here for Noumea on the 23rd ult., reached her destination after a trying ordeal. During a terrific gale, experienced shortly after leaving, she was struck by lightning, and all the live stock on board was killed. Subsequently she was almost completely dismantled. A consignment of hay stored alongside cases of dynamite became dangerously heated and had to be jettisoned. The Pactole reached Noumea under jury rior
Brisbane, October 18. The Euahine has arrived here. The unfounded report that the vessel was ashore on the coast was caused through a slight breahdown in her machinery, which led the small coasting vessel which first circulated the report to imagine the ship was aground. Repairs to the ship were effected in a few hours, and the vessel proceeded on her voyage. Hobart, October 17. The s.s. Lincolnshire arrived from London this morning, all well, and resumes her voyage to Auckland at 6 o’clock to-night, Albany, October 17. Arrived—Orizaba, from London. Passengers for New Zealand—Mr and Mrs Allan, Mr and Miss Haines, Mrs Hay and son, Rev. Mr Ryan. London, October 17. The Kaikoura left Plymouth to-day for Wellington via the usual way ports. Among the passengers for New Zealand is the Hon. C. O, Bowen. The steamer Bokhara was wrecked on Sand Island, one of the Descadores Group, near Formosa. The commander and the majority of the crew were lost, and 22 were saved. It is believed that the Bokhara was manned by a Lascar crew numbering 120. She was commanded by European officers. There are numerous reefs in the vicinity of where the vessel struck, and a vessel has been Bent in search of the survivors. New York, October 17. A schooner capsized during a hurricane in the Bay of Honduras, and eighteen persons were drowned, including the captain.
