TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.
Another town improvement at Geraldine has just been completed by Messrs N. Dunlop & Co. in the shape of a large show-room erected at the corner end of their premises. The show-room adjoins the drapery department, and has a measurement of 21ft x 23ft. It is approached by an archway from the main building, and is fitted up with counters and glass cases in such a manner that goods are displayed to great advantage, and also to suit the convenience of customers. Having just received a shipment of new spring goods from the English and Scotch market, a fine display is made at the opening of the new showroom—parasols, new season hats, trimmings, fancy goods and everything imaginable are arranged onthe counters and stands round the room, while the body of the floor is left bare for visitors to walk about and inspect the goods. Among the new goods we noticed some real Panama cabbage tree hats that can be folded into any shape without fear of damage. The addition of this new show-room has given room for the old one to be turned into a fitting room. This in turn gives more space in the dressmaking room. Previously the dressmaking room and fitting room were in one, and now the whole of the room is devoted entirely to dressmaking. The entire frontage of Messrs Dunlop & Co.’s premises now extend for 120 feet, and the building is divided off so that each department is kept distinctly to itself. The departments now contained in the building are dressmaking, fancy goods, drapery, boot department, grocery, hardware, and butchery. Improvements such as this show that the township is steadily advancing.
