London, October 6. Mr W. R. Arbuthnot, chairman of the Bank of Australasia, at a meeting of shareholders threw blame on the fatal facility for floating loans in the past, and on the abnormal inflation in the labor and share markets in the colonies. Oct. 7. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, IOOf, ex dividend: 3i ditto, 96-l. New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, is restricted in sale at 32s 6tl. Frozen meat quotations are unchanged. New Zealand hemp is very firm, and as holders of stock are declining to sell except at an advance, no sales are recorded. Danish butter. 132 s per cwt. At the wool sales there is fair competition, but faulty wools are weak. A large quantity of old wool has been sold at a slight decline in prices, except for best, greasy sorts. South Australian wheat, ex warehouse is restricted at oos 6d ; Victorian, ex warehouse, quiet at 335. Oct. 8. The liabilities in the estate of Me srs Kedfern, Alexander and Co.. are estimated at £-100,000. During the September quarter the imports decreased by £2,600,000, and the exports decreased by £1,700,000. The liquidator in the estate of the ~Nt'.\v Oriental Bank Corporation announces that he will pay the creditors a dividend of 4s in the £ about the middle of January next. At the wool sales there is keen competition for good scoured wools, but faulty greasy sorts are in buyers favor. Importers complain that the overstock of frozen meat has not been absorbed find mutton is selling in the provinces at under 3d per lb. Paris, Oct. 7. There is a growing agitation in France against the protection tariff, especially in so far as it affects wool. The French Customs revenue for the September quarter has decreased £250,000 owing to the new tariff. The working classes are protesting. Sydney, Oct. 8. A strong syndicate of Sydney and Melbourne capitalists has been formed to Utilise the watei's of the rivers Colo and Gfosse for transmitting electric light power to Sydney. The estimated cost is £500,000.
