London, Oct, 4. The Welsh coal and iron works are suspending work in consequence of the depression. Five mines in Midland are idle and reducing wages. Paris, Oct. 2. The Figaro publishes what are supposed to be suppressed details of the recent spinners strike at Loud, in Poland. A mob attacked the Jews, outraged and murdered their women. Cossack troops intervened and two hundred of the mob were shot. The Figaro says General Gourko, Go-vernor-General, issued orders '‘Kill without mercy; do not spare powder.” Yokohama, Oct. 2.
The Japanese press is indignant at the expulsion of Japanese labourers from America, and urges reprisals. Sydney, Oct. 3.
To-day was observed as a general holiday in honor of the eight hours’ demonstration, .Several of the smelters at the Proprietary and other mines have begun operations.
