MR EDGELER AND THE TOWN BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—lf Mr Edgeler had mair sense ho wadna write sic nonsense. If he wad tak up a position alaugside o’ oor new bridge some mornin’ atween 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock, when the traffic begins, an’ coont the number o’ carts that pass over it in a day, he wad ken whether it was a wheelbarrow bridge or not. Of coorse the bridge wasna’ built for the benefit of the swells wha live in an’ around Belgrove Cottage. It was built for the convenience o’ the puir fouk wha live in the special settlement on the ither side o’ the creek, and with money that accrued frae their sections—money that cudna’ be legally spent except for the benefit o’ the sections it accrued frae, an’ Mr Edgeler has nae richt tae interfere wi’ what was done wi’ it. Pernaps he is like plenty mair; he maybe thinks that puir fouk ha’e nae richt to ony convenience, an’ that a’ the money—no matter wha it belongs tae—sud be spent for the benefit o’ the Big Bugs who write a lot o’ capitals after their names. He maun learn to oonderstand that this is a democratic age, an’ the time isna far off when a’e man will be as guid as anither, an’ maybe a great deal better, as the Irishman said. I dinna care n hat Mr Mr Edgeler said aboot the toon board. Of coorse they maun be a bad lot or they wadna be a toon board. 'We a’ ken that weel eneuch. He can thrash them if he likes, but he maun let the bridge alane, or he’ll maybe tumble o’er the end o’ it some nicht, an he’ll find that it’s a gay deep hole that’s below it if lie gets intae it. —I am, etc., A Ohxel that’s Ta’en Notes.
