HORSE PARADE.

The horse prrado held last Saturday in Cain's Paddock, Timaru, under the auspices of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association, cannot be pronounced a success. The weather was anything but pleasant, being extremely cold and wet, and in consequence of this the attendance of / farmers was small, compared with other years. Considerable difficulty was experienced in prevailing on owners of horses to show at all, but after a little persuasion some went to the ground, and others followed, till in all nine horses put in an appearance. The entry was as follows : DRAUGHT HORSES. Mr E. T. Rhodes's Bonny Breast Knot, by Young Banker, dam Princess Royal. Mr Wm. McKibbin's Young Lome, 3 years, by Lord Lome, dam Princess Royal. Mr Alex. Mackenzie's Glenmore, by Banker, dam Lady Wallace, by Sir Wm. Wallace, dam Lady Patterson. Mr John Crow's Prince of Glamis, by Thane of Glamis, dam Sally. Mr Jas, Austin's Cragievar, by Old Times, dam Maggie, by Prince of • Wales. Mr Landell's Richmond, by Lucks All, dam Violet. Mr G. Stumbles's Champion, 4 yearß, by Lord Haddo, dam Duchess of Glasgow. THOROUGHBRED HORSES. Mr H. Rothwell's Albury, 4 years, by Master Agnes, dam Bijou. Mr Deßeuzy's The Arbiter, by Betrayer, dam Nancy, by Biomedes. Mr R. Rutherford's Artillery, by Muaket, dam Ouidtt. Mr it. Rutherford's Derwenter, by Manuka, dam Miss J.tckson. Mr Mahoney's 'Ravenscraig (imp.), by Craigmiller, dam lady Rayfjuswqrtfi. TROTTING AND OOAOHING HORSES. Mr R, Davie's Brazil, 3 years, by Berlin, dam Fanny Allen. • Mr J. Murphy's Texas, by Berlin, dam Rose, by Shales (imp.) Mr J. Shaw's Lord John, by Berlin, dam Princess Maud. Mr J. King Berlin, by Woodford Mambrino, dam Sue Dudley. Mr G. H. Rhodes, ■ , 3 years, by Berlin, dam Granny.

PONIBS. Master J. Drummond's Doctor, 3 years, I by Tom Thumb, dam Maggie, by Chevy Chase. Mr J. King's Prince of Wales, by Hercules, by General Nutt, dam Nutshell mare. We do not, as a rule, take notice of horses outside of this district, but Bonny Breast Knot was, as is wejl known, bom in Temuka, and is really a credit to the district. He is full brother to Early Morning, being by Young Banker oui of Princess Royal, and has developed into a splendid horse, having all the fine points of the Clydesdale. He resembjes Early Morning, but good .judges assert that he is the better horse of the two. Glenmore, by Banker, was in fine condition. We understand that this horse has been purchased by Mr John Dore, of Pleasant Point. Prince of Glamis looked better this year than PU any previous opcasion ; he 1h a fine large horse, showing the good ■»<•"'-' the Clydesdale looked i« -oiitly. Craigievar ... excellent condition, and the beau ideal of a good sire, and so was Mr Stumbles's Champion. All these horses are excellent sires, but of course it is not our place to select one for special praise to the detriment of the others.

In the thoroughbred class Arbiter was the only representative from this district, and he appeared proud of the distinction, judging by the life and animation he displayed, and his general appearance. He was well groomed, and as pretty as a picture. In the trotting class, our old friend

Texas appeared greatly impoved in looks and condition since last year. He will be remembered aa having travelled tills district last year, and we are glad to say he will take the same route this year, as he certainly appears to be a most desirable, siro. His color is a rich dappled gray, and he is a fine upstanding animal with splendid action, taking a good deal after his sire Berlin. An advertisement stating the districts in which ho will travel will be found elsewhere.
