THE FRENCH REPUBLIC.
Paris, Sept. 23. Great fetes have been held in celebration of the centenary of the proclamation establishing the Republic. The ceremony in the Pantheon was attended by 200,000 people. M. Loubet, Premier, and M. Floquet, in stirring speeches to-day, lauded the triumphs of Republicanism. The latter declared that it was necessary to grapple resolutely with the social problems in order to solve them peacefully- j a Paris is brilliantly illuminated and crowds throng the streets. Everywhere there are signs of gaiety and enthusiasm. Similar festivities are being celebrated in the provinces. Prince Victor has issued a manifesto signed "Napoleon," demanding a plebiscite on the question of Royalty versus the Republic. The Paris correspondent of the Times says that the Prince would not obtain a million votes. Sept. 24. The Russian Embassy was not represented at the centenary celebration. The only Ambassadors present were those from England and Italy.
