SAMOAN NEWS,
Sydney-, Sept. 22
Latest news from Samoa states that fighting is imminent there. Some time ago the King was informed that if warrants of the Supreme Court were resisted and the officials were unable to execute a warrant, any warship at the time in port would be permitted to assist in enforcing the law. The offer was, however, hedged in by conditions making it valueless. The Marshall’s Court recently attempted to execute warrants in Malie, but the officers were surrounded by armed men, who refused to allow any arrest to be made. The authorities asked that H.M.S. Curatjoa should assist in enforcing the law, but Consuls decided that they could not allow the vessel to interfere. The Samoans are now concerting measures to deal with Mataafa without the assistance of the Powers.
