SHEARERS’ UNION.
The annual meeting of the Geraldine branch of the Amalgamated Shearers and Laborers Union was held on Saturday evening last, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr It. Hammond (president) occupied the chair, and read the annual report and balance sheet as under : “ In presenting this report your committee congratulates the union on its continued prosperity. The number of members on the roll has increased considerably during the past year, which is mainly due to the activity of some of the committee, i.e., Messrs Hammond, J. J. Khlaugher, A. Brown, and others, in canvassing for members in various shearing sheds in the district. There have been four quarterly meetings held during the year and one special meeting, which was called to consider the advisability of amalgamating with the other branches of the union, particulars and result of which were issued in circular. The financial year was commenced with a credit balance of £5 Us. The receipts of the year amounted to £l7 17s 9d, and the expenditure to £l7 17s 2d, including £l3 transferred to the head oflice, Waimato. This leaves a credit balance for the past year of £5 Us 7d. The balance-sheet was duly audited and found correct.” In consequence of several members being absent the election of officers for the ensuing year was deferred till next quarterly meeting, when a full attendance is expected, to receive the report of conference. Messrs B. Hammond, G. Voal, and R. Bennett were appointed as delegates to attend the conference. The meeting then terminated.
