The trial of Thomas McGreevy, formerly member for Quebec West, in the Dominion Parliament, on charges of corruption, has been postponed, owing to the most important of the books impounded by the Committee of Parliament having in some mysterious manner disappeared. Canadian banks are refusing to accept American silver coins, of which five million dollars’ worth circulate in the Dominion.

In a panic caused by a fire in a hotel at Montreal, three persons were killed by jumping from windows. New' York, Sept. 14.

The Peary expedition, in latitude 81 N., during the month of July found Greenland free from snow-flowers blooming, insects, many animals, and birds abundant. The expedition has effected many valuable scientific discoveries.

The Australasian Cricket Council has decided to send a team to Lngland next year. Six heats ot the Aquatic Carnival were rowed to day, the winners being Stansbury, Sullivan, Kemp. Neilsou, Towns, and Roberts. Pour more

heats will be decided on Friday, and then the ten winners will draw for the final heats.

In the Legislative Assembly to-day Mr Reid, leader of the Opposition, asked the Premier if the Government would allow his motion of censure to come on for discussion. Sir G. R. Dibbs replied in the negative. Mr Reid then tabled a direct motion of want of confidence in the Government and the House adjourned until tomorrow. It is anticipated that the Government will have a majority of twenty. Sept. 16.

In the Legislative Assembly discussion on the motion introduced by Mr Reid, leader of the Opposition, traversing the conduct of the Government, is proceeding. The arrests made at Broken Hill have given a lively interest of what should otherwise been an uninteresting discussion. The action of the Labour party is watched with great attention, inasmuch as rumours are current that they will record a solid vote against the Government. Melbourne, Sept, 15. The Federal Assembly of the Presbyterian Church has begun its session. The Rev. C. Eachern, of Melbourne, was elected Moderator.
