ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Sept. 7. The report that the British troops are under orders to withdraw from Cairo at the end of the year is denied. Mr Massey, of Adelaide, states that the experiments with sulphide ore from Broken Hill are a complete success. By the new wet process calcining is not required. The zinc, lead, and silver, are extracted separately, and the residue contains contains 12dwts silver (V gold) to the ton. The cost is merely nominal. Sept. 8. The English harvest is estimated to average 22 bushels per acre. It is reported that a secret alliance has been formed between Peru, Bolivia, and that Argentine,' to counteract Avhieh Chili and Bfazil will enter into another alliance.
A Liverpool steamer is ashore on the Isle of Man. Five hundred passengers and the crew were saved by means of the rocket apparatus. A split has taken place in a section of the Parliamentary supporters of the Irish evicted tenants, one seetion, which is appealing for a Royal Commission to enquire into the question, alleging that the other section are impostors and fear an enquiry. The Parnellites have issued a manifesto urging the reorganisation of the National League since the Nationalists have surrendered their independence. The Colonial Office has promised to reconsider its refusal to renew the San Francisco mail contract.
The National Chrysanthemum Society exhibited blooms preserved in blocks of ice sent by Mr J. Garland, of Wellington. The collection was awarded a silver gilt medal. The Zealandia axd Tarawera blooms obtained first-class certificates. Lady Bell and Bimutaka were commended by the floral committee, and the public were greatly pleased at the fine quality of the blooms. Paris, Sept, 7.
M. Grey Mier, a clerk in the Minister of Marine's Department, has been sentenced to 20 years’ penal servitude and 20 years’ exile, for selling naval secrets to German Officials.

The Russian Government have forbidden meetings of the Stundist sect. The leaders are being separated, and their followers sent to lunatic asylums on charges of madness. The Novosti, replying to Professor Varabery, said that Russia’s sole object is to find an outlet in the Indian Ocean, Pamir is of no value as a strategic position, but Russia will not give up its claim to the eastern section. The Russians are excluding foreigners from the coasting trade along her shores. Sept, 8. A Catholic intended to injure or destroy a Greek church in Warsaw, but the bomb exploded prematurely in his pocket and killed him, Hong Kong, Sept. T. Outrages on mission stations have been resumed, and the murder a missionary aud a number of native Christians is reported from Sheen Si, a mountainous province in the northwest of China. At the celebration of Arbor Day 40,000 people marched in procession in Chicago, and 20,000 in New York.
