CHOLERA.
London, Sept. 1. Cholera has appeared at Altmark, Stuttgart, Spandau, and Lenthen in Germany, and Mechlin and Bruges in Belgium. It is reported that two tourists from Hamburg have died at Islington. No well proved case of cholera of the Asiatic type has been discovered in the United Kingdom, but it is feared that it may be imported from Hamburg. Sept. 3. A Russian emigrant has died at Liverpool from cholera. The importation of Hamburg fruit into London has been prohibited. Princes Christian is enrolling trained nurses to attend upon cholera patients. The demand for disinfectants in the city has exceeded the supply. Cholera has caused a depression in stocks. Paris, Sept. 1. There were sixty-five deaths at Havre yesterday. Sept. 3. Cholera has appeared in Honfleur and Dieppe. The deaths in Paris from cholera average 20 daily. Berlin, Sept. 1. Great public donations are being received in Hamburg in aid of the sufferers from cholera. Sept. 3. Dr Koch asserts that cholera arose in Hamburg from the camp of Russian emigrants, whose dirty water flowed into the river Elbe and the adjoining water works. The daily average of deaths in Hamburg numbers 201. Several hundreds of bodies are still lying in the hospitals and drillshed awaiting burial. The German medical papers advocate the compulsory cremation of bodies.
Two deaths from cholera are reported in Berlin, and isolated cases are all traceable to Hamburg, from tricts.
Cholera has appeared in Lemberg, Upper Styria, Luxemberg, Charlottenberg, and Buda-Pesth. There were 247 deaths at Hamburg yesterday, chiefly in the suburbs. Many of those attacked died in two hours.
Up to the present twenty-three towns in Germany are affected.
Ambulance contracts have been arranged in Berlin to carry a thousand patients per day in case of necessity. Great preparations are being made in the hospitals for an outbreak in the capital, Hambbukg, Septal,
Two hundred and seventy-five deaths were reported on Wednesday including several hospital doctors and nurses, and many persons of the upper and middle classes. A Russian who arrived here from Hamburg is believed to be suffering from cholera. The American quarantine regulations are limited to emigrant ships. The quarantine regulations in New York are having the effect of stopping European immigration. Cholera has made it appearance in the city, and in consequence President Harrison has postponed his political tour in order to supervise the safeguards for arresting the epidemic.
