Auckland, Sept. 3. At the inquest on the body of Edward Linton a verdict of " found dead by hanging by the neck, presumably by his own act and deed," was returned. Sept. 5. John Lowe, a railway guard at Cambridge, died suddenly on Sunday. Palmerston North, Sept. 5. A man named James Head was found in the Orua river last evening. Wellington, Sept. 4. An elderly man named Samuel Groves, a bricklayer, took chloroydne yesterday afternoon at Pahiatua, but Dr Gault was soon called in, and he was brought round all right. He has been depressed over pecuniary difficulties. At Greytown North, on Saturday morning, the body of Walter Dunn v, as found hanging by a rope in his dwelling, where he lived alone. Dr Bey examined the body, and found that the neck was broken. Deceased had fastened a rope to a beam in the kitchen, and apparently had put one box upon another to get his head into the noose. He was last seen on Wednesday evening, and it is supposed that the body had been hanging more than 24 hours. Napier, Sept. 4. A man named George Watts, a recent arrival from Temuka, South Canterbury, committed suicide yesterday. As he did not come down from his room the landlord of the hotel where he was staying finally burst open the door, and found him lying in a pool of blood, with his throat cut from ear to ear, quite dead. He left a letter to his father and mother saying that life had been robbed of all its pleasure. This is supposed to refer to the recent loss of his wife. At the inquest last night a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. Christchurch, Sept. 4.

The body of a newly-born female child in a sack, was found this afternoon in the river Heathcote, near the Ferry Bridge. There were no marks of violence on the body, which had apparently been about 48 hours in the water.

Sophia Jones, 16, a girl who was recently employed as a servant at the Heathcote Arms Hotel was arrested on Sunday, on a charge of the wilful murder of her female infant child, on or about August 24th.
