Just fancy this! A cablegram from London tells us that London financiers are of opinion that New Zealand Treasurybills can be easily sold in that city. They don't believe in bonds being placed in the hands of the Bank of England, and, in fact, they appear hurt at the idea that we are going to borrow no more from them. That is the way to bring them to their senses! But what about frightened capital after this ? The London financiers refuse to touch Treasury bills of any of the other colony, but they appear to think they have a grieuance against us for talking about raising the money in our own colony. Who will bother about the " shriek of panic " of New Zealand money-lenders after this 1 We are much obliged to the London money-lenders, but we must decline their offer with thanks. If we wanted the money the London money-lenders would make a great deal of noise about lending it. It is when they see we can do without them they sire so generous.
