PAMIR AND AFGHANISTAN.
Calcutta, Aug. 31. The population of Sarawak has broken out in revolt against the Ameer. St. Petersburg, August 30. YanofFs troops will pass the winter in Pamir. Brussels, Aug. 30. The Ameer's troops defeated the Hazaras at Kamsung with heavy loss. The Ameer's loss was 400 killed. London, Aug. 31. The Standard's St. Petersburg correspondent telegraphs that no exchange of views has taken place between Russsiaand the British Minister of Foreign Affairs respecting Pamir. It is stated that Russia claims the territory occupied by General Yanoff's expedition on the ground that it formerly belonged to the ruler of Lahakana, and the latter is now under their protection. China maintains that the territory belongs toKashgaria. Another report is current that Russia has assured Lord Roseberry that she has no desire to trespass on British interests.
