PAMIR AND AFGHANISTAN.
Calcutta, Aug. 26. General Yanoff in a report to the Ameer complains that the Afghans refused to treat him amicably but opened fire on his expedition. The Ameer is appealing to the English against the Russian intrusion. General Yanoffl’a expedition numbers 2000 men, with twelve guns, and a position has been taken up at Alichur, Another Russsian force is stationed at Kalawang, ou the bank of the river Oxus. The Ameer of Afghanistan has informed the Yicei’oy of India that the fighting which has recently occurred in Pamir is the result of Russian aggressions, Three thousand Russians are encamped at- Surnufash. Aug. 27. The reinforcements sent by Russia en route to Pamir have passed through Tashkend. The Khost tribe have broken out in revolt against the Ameer. Hong Kong, Aug. 27. The Chinese Minister in Berlin has been been instructed to proceed to St. Petersburg to demand the recall of General Yanoff's expedition, Lonuqn, Avtg, 20. The Ameer’s appeal to the Viceroy of Indfa has caused a sQßsation in Europe. The Vienna press is enquiring what rrre Mr Gladstone’s intentions In view of a further advance by the Russians,
