TEMPERANCE.

Mr Knott, temperance lecturer, appeared last evening in the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, the audience being small. The chair was occupied by the Rev. Mr Dellow, who briefly introduced the lecturer. Mr Knott spoke for about an hour and a-half, his subject being “ The Adulteration of Drink.” A judge told him that not long ago in Timaru a brewers sued a licensee of a tied house for breach of contract in selling beer other than supplied by the brewer. An analysis was made of the beer, and the brewer withdrew the paso, as he would not dare to go into Court with it.
