ST. SAVIOUR’S PARISH.

The Rev. W. E. Gillam preached his first sermon in his new parish at the church. of St. John the Evangelist, WinChester, on Sunday morning, when, vn spite of tho wet condition of the roads, there was a very good attendance. The service consisted of Morning Prayer and Holy Communion. In the afternoon Mr Gillam visited the Sun day _ School at Temuka, where he was received by Mr R. Pinckney, the superintendent, and introduced to tho teachers. After lessons he delivered a very interesting address from I. Timothy i., 17 : “ The Living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.” In the evening there was a crowded congregation at St. Saviour’s Church. The sermon, which was an eloquent one and appropriate to the occasion, was taken from the 16th verse of the 9th chapter of Ecclesiastes; “ Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” To-night Mr Gillam will be formally welcomed to the parish at a tea-meeting and public gathering in the Parish Hall. The chair will be taken by Mr John Talbot, and in addition to the addresses by visiting clergy a short musical programme has been arranged. Tea will be served at half-past six, and the public meeting will commence at eight o’clock.
