There was only a small attendance at the Ashburton yards on Tuesday, when about 6000 sheep, mostly off turnips, were yarded, There was a decided drop in the prices realised fqr ferine wethers. Merino (]vrea iq Dmb brought % a 3d up to 83. Qd, w-ethera Bs, 9a 6d, Us 9d, and 1.2 s Od. Crossbred ewes brought 13s, to 16s 2d. two-tooths 15s Id, 15s 2d, to 16s 4d and 16s 8d ; ewes in lamb 13a 9d, hoggets 13s 4d, 13s 6d, and 13s lid. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, August 21. Tallow, medium mutton, 21s Gd; beef. 235. The English wheat market is lifeless and the Continental declining while the American is declining continuously. Aug. 22. Wheat has fallen 6d per quarter, Calcutta, Aug. 22. The clamour throughout India for the closing of the mints for the coinage of silver is increasing, and the refusal of the Government to indicate a remedy to avert the danger has incensed all sections of the population.
